‘Bear Words in context; working with Pip’ provides a scheme of work that makes a real and meaningful link between phonic teaching and keywords.
Bears 1 - 8 highlight the Phase 2 and 3 high frequency keywords, as defined in ‘Letters and Sounds.’ These act as the springboard into reading and are used alongside your daily phonic teaching.
Bears 9 - 70 support the implementation of short and long vowel phoneme/grapheme correspondences, as defined in ‘Letters and Sounds.’
All of the 300 high frequency keywords are organised in such a way that children from Foundation 2 through to Year 2 can experience the best of both worlds!
